Free Guy is a 2021 American science fiction action comedy film directed by Shawn Levy from a screenplay by Matt Lieberman and Zak Penn, and a story by Lieberman. The film stars Ryan Reynolds as a bank teller who discovers that he is actually a non-player character in an open-world video game and becomes the hero of the story, trying to save his friends from deletion by the game's creator. Taika Waititi, Jodie Comer, Joe Keery, Lil Rel Howery, and Utkarsh Ambudkaralso star in the film. Following a year-long delay because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Free Guywas released theatrically in the United States on August 13, 2021 in RealD 3D, IMAX and Dolby Cinema formats by 20th Century Studios. The film has grossed over $180 million worldwide and received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised the clever concept and compared it favorably to a combination of Ready Player One, The Truman Show, The Matrix, Grand Theft Auto, Cyberpunk 2077 and Fortnite.[5][6]
I saw this movie a few days ago with my grandmother (my first trip to the theaters since the pandemic) and honestly, it was okay. It was funny, the casting was good and in my opinion Ryan Reynolds did a good job playing Guy. Interesting thing though, the actor who played Buddy (Lil Rel Howery) kinda reminded me of Kevin Hart in some parts. To be honest, it was a little hard to understand, so you must be a huge video fanatic to really enjoy it. I give it a good 4 stars. Check it out if you want to.
